Where Morpheus8 Shines:Jawline, Neck, and Lower Face

Many times we ask patients what first made them feel older in photos, and many point to the same places: a softer jawline, jowls that were not there five years ago, or crepey skin on the neck. These areas are hard to address with skincare alone, and many people are not ready for surgery. That is where Morpheus8 comes in for many of our St. Petersburg patients.

Why the Lower Face and Neck Change With Age

Several things happen at once as we age:

  • Collagen and elastin decline. The body produces less collagen and elastin over time, making skin less firm and elastic.
  • Fat shifts. Some areas lose volume while fat collects below the jawline and under the chin.
  • Sun exposure adds up. In Florida, years of UV exposure can accelerate breakdown of the skin's support structure.

Together, these can blur the line between jaw and neck. Because the problem involves both skin and the tissue beneath it, treatments that work only on the surface often fall short.

How Morpheus8 Works on These Areas

An RF microneedling handpiece being applied along a client’s jawline
Treatment along the jawline. The provider sets the needle depth for each area.

Morpheus8, made by InMode, combines microneedling with fractional radiofrequency (RF) energy. Fine, insulated needles enter the skin to a set depth and deliver RF heat at their tips. That heat:

  1. Stimulates the body's healing response, which may lead to new collagen and elastin over the following months
  2. Contracts existing tissue in the deeper dermis
  3. Remodels fat just beneath the skin when necessary, which InMode describes as subdermal adipose remodeling

The depth is adjustable. That means a provider can treat thinner skin along the jaw differently from fuller tissue under the chin and adjust settings from pass to pass.

What the Research Shows

Lower face and jowls

A 2022 review in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology described how dermatologists use Morpheus8 on the lower face. For the jawline, jowls and under-chin (submental) area, the authors describe multiple passes at depths of roughly 1 to 4 millimeters to target both skin tightening and the fat just beneath the skin.

Lower face and neck laxity

A 2020 study in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open looked at a combination approach for lower face and neck laxity. It paired fractional RF microneedling with a separate, minimally invasive RF procedure, and patients showed measurable improvement in laxity scores with high reported satisfaction. That study tested a combination, so its results should not be read as Morpheus8 alone. It does show why RF-based approaches are popular for this region.

What Improvements Might You See?

Many patients notice:

  • A crisper-looking jawline
  • Softer jowls
  • Smoother, firmer skin texture on the neck
  • A subtle reduction in under-chin fullness

These changes are typically gradual and natural-looking. Morpheus8 will not replicate a surgical neck lift. People with significant skin laxity or heavy banding in the neck may get better results from a surgical consultation, and we will tell you honestly if we think that is the case.

Timeline and Treatment Plan

Number of sessions
Many plans include about 3 to 5 sessions, spaced roughly 4 to 6 weeks apart. Some patients benefit from more.
When you will see change
Some people notice early tightening within a few weeks. Because collagen builds slowly, results often continue to develop for about 3 to 6 months after your final session.
Maintenance
Periodic maintenance sessions may help sustain results as natural aging continues.

Recovery and Florida-Specific Aftercare

Expect redness and mild swelling for a few days. Tiny pinpoint marks usually fade as the skin heals. Many patients return to normal routines within 1 to 3 days.

Living in St. Petersburg means extra attention to sun protection:

  • Skip the beach, boat, and pool for the first few days, or as directed.
  • Use broad-spectrum SPF daily and a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Avoid heavy sweating and hot workouts for at least 24 to 48 hours, or as your provider advises.

Is It Safe for My Skin Type?

InMode states Morpheus8 can be used across skin types I to VI. That is partly because RF energy does not target skin pigment the way many lasers do. Settings still need to be adjusted for each person, especially for deeper skin tones, to reduce the risk of pigment changes.

Morpheus8 may not be appropriate if you are pregnant, have an active skin infection or inflamed acne in the area, recently used isotretinoin, or have certain implanted devices or medical conditions. If you get cold sores, tell your provider; they may recommend preventive medication.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. It may soften mild to moderate laxity and improve contour, but it does not reposition deeper structures the way surgery can.
